Lemi Mideska first in Hampstead Heath

Highlights from a busy weekend of running include Lemi Mideska’s first place in the U17 category of the NWLL Cross Country league, with Benjy Bediako coming second among the U11s. Josie Hinton was in top form with a PB in the Harrow Half, dipping under 1:20 for the first time as the third woman, while Thomas Foy and Laurie Swan picked up PBs in the low 2:50s in the Seville Marathon,. Meanwhile Elinor East qualified to represent her country in the World Duathlon Champs.

Heathside Red Hot at the Winter 10K!

The Cancer Research Winter 10K in Central London was one of the few races that wasn’t cancelled this weekend due to icy roads and tow paths. Many Heathsiders were due to race the Watford H/M and Regents Pk 10K, instead they nursed Bat Mitzvah hangovers, or stayed in bed, or went out on long distance training runs.

A Major Goal

For marathon runners, the winter represents a difficult period of training and conditioning. Most of us indulged over Christmas, and since New Year’s Day, the weather has got worse. It’s colder, wetter, more slippery, it’s dark in the mornings, and the first two months of our training block are very tough. It requires some mental strength and stubbornness.

New indoor club records and PBs in St Albans

It was relatively quiet week.  Although there are only 3 events to report on, the quality made up for it, with Rosa Serafini setting a new club record at the indoor 800m, numerous PBs in the first race of the club road race series at St Albans, and a great run in the Victoria Park 10k by Jessica Vinluan.
