The first weekend of 2019 saw cross country return to the fore and Heathside had a brilliant day at the Middlesex Championships, our most successful in recent memory, as we came home with 5 team titles across the various age groups, while Rebecca Piggott and Jem O’Flaherty won the Senior Women and U20 Men’s individual titles. With a full rundown on how the day panned out, over to Simon Baker:
Read MoreThe New Year’s Eve revelries seemed to have little impact on the obsessive mania of Heathsiders, not for just running, but for competing too. Aside from the 84 of us who took part in Parkruns, eleven more raced the Serpentine New Year 10k and five took part in the Lee Valley New Year Open - 100 in all. Not bad for a Tuesday morning.
Read MoreAfter trawling through the billions of results on Power of 10, I could see no Heathsiders taking part in anything that week. Everyone was either still recovering from the Xmas bash or they were busy preparing for the festivities and buying their Xmas gifts on Amazon.
Read MoreThe 3rd Fixture took the Sunday League team to Stevenage. A good turnout was achieved despite the out of town venue, with special kudos to those who participated after attending the Christmas party the night before.
Read MoreThe main event this week was the SEAA Masters and Inter-counties cross-country championship in Hospath, which saw many great performances. There were also some excellent performances at the Lee Valley Minithon and PBs in several road races.
Read MoreThe “raging torrent” running through the middle of the Met League course at Uxbridge on Saturday was undoubtedly the highlight of the running weekend. But in addition to the excitement of the river there were many excellent results at Uxbridge and elsewhere as you'll see in this bumper race report. At the Met league the women’s team was first, and there were first individual places in the under 13 boys - Spike Blake, and under 11 boys - Benji Bediako. Other weekend highlights include the Sunday League, Valencia marathon (a pb for Jo McKeown), Last Friday of the Month, the Perivale 5 and more.
Read MoreThe bulk of last weekend’s action took place up the road in Cockfosters (made a nice change to end up there for a reason other than falling asleep on the Piccadilly line after one too many…) as Trent Park hosted both the NWLL Cross County meet for the youngsters, while the Sorority and Fraternity Cups took place straight after for the seniors. News of some strong running and more Heathside silverware to follow below, along with some PBs from northern Spain, a new V60 club record and a couple of other PBs spotted on Power of 10 in the results section!
Read MoreA good weekend for Heathsiders with our women - Rebecca Piggott, Josie Hinton, Kelly Thorneycroft, Rosa Serafina - winning the London Cross Country championships at Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath, and Seyfu Jamaal taking gold as the first U20 in the 10k men’s race.
Read MoreSunday brought part two of the weekend’s cross-country fest, with 47 Heathsiders (21 ladies and 26 men) braving the cold weather to run in Trent Park in the second race in the Sunday league cross-country. Seventeen of them had run the day before in the Met league, making their performance in the tough conditions all the more impressive.
Read MoreThis week’s report is mainly on the Met League, as there wasn't much happening elsewhere apart from a couple of Heathsiders that were in action – Bridget Napelton at the Regents Park 10k and Chloe Martin-Brown at the George Munday 10K. Thanks to Sue Rust and Simon Baker for their contribution to the report.
