Club championships

The club hosts a series of championship races throughout the year. Each with their own history, competition and trophy for the eventual winners. Read more below and click through to the most recent results.

The Turner Shield

The Turner Shield is London Heathside’s longest standing award, going back to the 1920s. It is awarded each year to the club’s most consistent male cross country runner and was first presented to the club before the Second World War, so the previous winners include many of the club’s top runners over the years. Points are scored in the main cross-country races each winter, usually 12 of them, and the person with most points wins.

The Lambert Trophy

The Lambert Trophy was presented to the club about 20 years ago by Ron Lambert, who correctly felt it was about time there was a female equivalent of the Turner Shield. It works in exactly the same way with points being scored in the same major races and with the overall winner being the person who scores most points.

The Rob Jackson Trophy

Competing in the name of former Heathsider Rob Jackson, the championship provides an opportunity to compete in a series of races against other club members. The runners who accumulate the most points win!

The races for 2024 are listed below

At the time of compiling this list not all race organisers had finalised their races. If any races do not go ahead then we will look to offer an alternative.

How the Rob Jackson Trophy competition works:

Monthly races:

The championship consists of 7 races of varying distances.

The scoring system: the first placed London Heathside runner in any given race is awarded 100 points, the second place 99 points, third 98 etc. separately for men and women.

Your best 4 races count. You don’t have to enter all races, but the more you enter the better your chance of improving your score.

When you enter races, please enter London Heathside as your club, otherwise you might miss out on points.

Bonus Points and Season Finale:

Participants at the SEAA Road Relays in Milton Keynes on 24th March will get 10 Bonus points.

Any runner coming in the top 3 of their Age Group in a particular race receives Age Grade Bonus Points (1st = 5; 2nd = 3; 3rd = 1). This is top 3 across all runners, not just London Heathside.

The last event of the year, the Middlesex 10K will be the Season Finale, with double finish points on offer.
