A brave and stoic team of Heathsiders competed in the rain, mud and dark to take part in the Southern Cross Country Championships at Stanmer Park, Brighton.

Sunday saw Captain Kelly Thorneycroft home as the first woman in the Victoria Park 10, and Captain Jake Spencer’s third overall in a PB time, while at the Fred Hughes 10 miler Andy Barnes showed a return to form with a solid 15th place out 758.

Read MoreSaturday saw 30-plus Heathsiders traipsing off to Oxford to compete in the South of England Masters’ and Inter-County championships. The performance of the day belonged to 16-year-old Jem O’Flaherty who was the first Middlesex runner home in the under 17 event, and came ninth overall.
