Perivale 5, Ultras, Halfs and more

It was an eventful weekend – which included the 3rd Met League in Uxbridge and Perivale 5. We had a huge variation in races this weekend from xc , indoor track, 5ks, a one miler, a 5 miler, a 10 miler, a handful of half marathons, a 15k and a 73K and the news that Sandra Buckton is fastest parkrun lady in Germany this week!

Perivale 5, Perivale, 03.12.17
Tammela, delighted with her PB at the Perivale 5 and wrote this report: “On a cool and misty Sunday morning, a solid contingent of 14 Heathsiders ventured up to the Perivale 5, my favourite suburban race of a less common distance! The conditions were almost ideal, and after some standing around and a few laps of the track, it was time to go. Taking us first along a busy road, the course then twists and turns through the scenic suburbs before spitting us out into a small park. Around we go again before finishing in a lap of glory around the track.

There were some great performances all around: Leigh and Eilidh were well within the top 10 women, and I squeaked in as 11th woman with a 3-second PB. Simon came 10th overall, and Luka gets kudos for highest mileage of the day, having cycled 30km to the race and still managing to run a 40-second PB! Katie came in right behind me, and Nilesh and Caroline battled it out with strong finishes. Nick squeaked under 35 minutes which gives him a PB AND a new club MV60 record. It was great to have Jo and Andrew back in the fold, too. I'm sure there were other strong performances that I'm missing out. The t-shirts were bright orange this year - good for those evening road runs - and there were even medals for those who like a bit of bling.”

Bedford Harrier Half Marathon, Bedford 03.12.17
Mike Stocks and Joe McKeown both ran the Bedford Harrier Half-Marathon on Sunday, with Mike coming in 10th and 1st V45 and Joe 40th in 1.24. Joe wrote ” hoping to stretch the old legs before the inevitable wave for mince pies overcomes us all. It's a good race for club runners and there some pretty quick ones there too - winning time of 68mins”.

Alan Green Memorial 10, Thanet, 03.12.17
Natan Doran ran the Alan Green Memorial 10 Mile Race in Thanet this weekend. He reported” The race was all on road. Coastal wind against us in the second half of the race made it a bit tough but I came 13th out of 400 runners with a time of 01:04:10 - my first 10 mile race and I enjoyed it.”

Peacock Gap Trail half marathon, California, 02.12.17
Paul Beale admitted he took drastic measures to avoid the latest Met League and resorted to heading off to  take part in a half marathon trail run in San Rafael, California. He wrote: “On a very beautiful tough, twisting and hilly course with 1800ft of climbing elevation, I finished 3rd male and 1st V45 in 1:38”.

Coastal Trail Series, Ultra+ distance 73K, Dorset,  02.12.17
Lenny Martin, raced the Ultra+ distance at the Coastal Trail Series in Dorset on Saturday a distance of 73K on the “undulating” south west coast path (2,600m elevation over the course). He wrote that he “finished well in 16th place, from a field of about 150 starters (of which 101 finished) in a time of 8.49.25”

Maverick Dark Series – Surrey Leg 15k, 25.11.17
A late result from running machine Lenny Martin who last week ran the Surrey leg of the Maverick Dark Series (on 25th November) - a 15km trail race in the dark with head torches. He wrote: “I finished in just under 66 minutes, to end up in 5th place from a field of 126, which I'm very happy with - although slightly annoyed to see I was only a few seconds off 2nd in the final results which I wasn't aware of at all at the time - it's hard to pay attention to your competitors when you need to be constantly focussed on the small area of light in front of your feet “.

Victoria Park Half Marathon 03.12.17, Victoria Park, London
Sarah Duke ran the Victoria Park Half Marathon this weekend and got a PB of 1:43:22.

Ealing 1 mile, Ealing, 01.12.17
Jessica Vinluan took part in the Ealing 1 mile race on friday 1st December and got a 10 second pb of 6.11.

Lea Valley Indoor Open Meeting 03.12.17
Tony Killilea sent in this report: "The first indoor open meeting of the season was a sell-out, and three Heathsiders ventured up to Lee Valley to take part. Brand new member Ajarni Hinds made a promising start to his Heathside career with 8.07 and 8.10 secs in the 60m. Helene Kehoe was equally consistent with 9.44 and 9.47 secs in the same event. Tony Killilea opted for distance running and made his debut at 600m with 1:44.80.”

Parkruns
Here are the Parkrun results and well done to Kenneth Boulton who was first man at Grovelands in 18.07 and Chiara Borg first woman in 20.48 at Oakhill. But best of all - Sandra Buckton currently holds the record for the fastest parkrun woman in the whole of Germany.  This was Germany’s first week for having parkruns, there were only three and she came first in Neckarau in a time of 22.25 which was the fastest women’s time in all three new German parkruns! Congratulations Sandra – see how long you can hold on to your record.
