Pride of place this week goes to our Tony Killilea who is now the top-ranked V50 steeplechaser in the United Kingdom, following his impressive performance in the World Masters Track and Field Championship in Lyon. Neil Davies also put in a strong showing in the V65 1500 meter event.

Ash had walked the West Highland Way (from Glasgow to Fort William) a few times and Paul had climbed several Munros along the way, so they were the movers, with Sarah, Rob and I following eagerly in their wake – five super veterans. Read MoreProbably the best result for Heathsiders was that it was a sunny, warm and dry weekend for a change! A quiet week for racing, with a dearth of competitive events on the calendar, saw more Heathsiders running in Saturday morning Parkruns (36 in total) than in all other events combined. Two members took part in the AJ Bell London Triathlon, and three travelled up to God’s Own County, viz. Yorkshire, to run up hill and down dale in a two-day endurance event. And David Spencer proved that age is just a state of mind by winning his 100m event, in a time only 3 and-a-bit seconds slower than the 38 years younger Usain Bolt’s WR!
Read MoreIt is the height of summer so not surprisingly a very quiet racing weekend. The most exciting event without a doubt was the Finsbury Parkrun, where a massive 24 Heathsiders turned out to join the Boyles in their swansong run there before they (very sadly for us) depart for pastures new. Amongst the other racing highlights were the Last Friday of the month 5k, the August Regent’s Park 10k (part of the Summer Series), Self- Transcendence 5K, Watford Graded Open, the LICC, a French duathlon, and a Floridian triathlon.

Read MoreAfter the mass turn-out at last Tuesday’s club handicap, there are only a few (all high quality) races to report on this week. We have a gold medal performance at the European junior athletics championships from former Heathsider, Lily Beckford, speedy runs at the Watford open from Tom Fancett and Ryan McCrickerd and others, hard-fought battles for podium finishes between super-vet Ruth Miller and vet Sandra Buckton at the Hillingdon triathlon, as well as an exciting podium finish, and, potentially, a club record in an ultra marathon by Monika Newton.
Read MoreA mix of mainly 5ks and 10ks this week with plenty of rivalries going on. Richard Macaulay came in just ahead of Ryan McCrickerd in the Self Transcendence 5k, whilst Dan and Joe McKeown went back to Coventry to seek out some local rivals. PBs for Rich, Ryan and Joe and a great run for Dan too. Meanwhile plenty of Heathsiders were both marshalling and running in the Standard Chartered Great City Race. A couple of half marathons for Lea and Henry too, plus an Alpine swimrun event for Jane complete last week’s results.

Read MoreOn Saturday we played host to 5 other teams in 4th SAL fixture of the season. Parliament Hill (which saw scenes resembling wartime Europe back in March) was the venue on this very hot, sunny day. The Heathside turnout on the day was brilliant, so huge congratulations are due to all those who took part. We had some returning athletes from last season to help bolster the ranks and a few making their debuts. It was thanks to this great showing and some fantastic performances to boot, that we were able to rackup a massive score and comprehensively win the match!
Read MoreAs this unusual thing called ‘Summer’ sticks around for an unexpectedly long time, it was another hectic week of running, cycling and swimming for Heathsiders who were busy making hay while the sun quite literally shines. The main highlights were another thumping win in the 4th Southern Athletics League fixture from our ‘home’ meet at Parliament Hill, bringing a possible promotion to Division 2 within touching distance and our very own Club Championships (Part 2), with the ever popular 1500 and other running, jumping and spear chucking fun. Elsewhere, there are not one but two reports sent in from the Alps, news from triathlons in the slightly less glamorous Milton Keynes, a deceptively tough 10k closer to home in Bushey, the monthly Regent’s Park 10k, some Self Transcendence (still not sure what that is) at Battersea and the usual haul of good parkrun form.
