Our young athletes underlined that they are a force to be reckoned with this cross-country season with two top team placings and three individual podium finishes, including a win for Johnny, at a North West London YA fixture in Harrow on Saturday, while some of our seniors found some mud to play in, too. Not Tony though - he ran in the sun in India.
Read MoreSaturday saw a strong showing from the club at the London Youth Games and the London Cross country championships held on the muddy slopes of Parliament Hill. Our young athletes had another good day, and there were some good individual performances from our seniors, despite a disappointing lack of team medals. This was another great day for our young athletes who were competing against athletes from all 33 boroughs in the London Youth Games Cross Country Races, Parliament Hill.
Read MoreWith a good number of our members splashing through the mud at the London Cross Country championships on the Heath on Saturday (report to follow), it was a quiet weekend elsewhere for our road runners. However what we lacked in quantity was certainly made up for in quality with some well earned PBs at distances from 10k to marathon. Rob Shulman had a great run at the Luton marathon, finishing in 2hr54min which was his first PB at that distance for two and a half years, while Phil Wright ran his debut marathon in Turin in 3 hr 18min - well done to both! In Gosport, Dan Madams impressively ran the half marathon in 74min43sec, a PB for him by over 2 minutes and Anthony Hall also had a great run to get a PB at St Neots (answers on a post card if you know where that is!) with a finishing time of 78min42sec. Angela Howe was first woman at the Fraserburgh half, finishing in 86mins, particularly impressive as she apparently had to stop to avoid a rearing horse en route.
Read MoreThe North West London Young Athletes first fixture of the season on Saturday was a chance for Heathside's youngsters to shine at Horsenden Hill. Despite the wintery weather with a cold wind lashing across the venue, there was a good turnout with plenty of strong performances. Over 280 young athletes from 10 different clubs competed on Saturday, a very high turnout reflecting the 'Olympic' effect. Indeed the Under 11s girls' race had its largest ever entry, with 48 finishers!
Read MoreThis was a fantastic week for our road runners with over 100 members of the club racing either at the cross country Met League on Saturday or on roads on Sunday, in Holland or closer to home. The most impressive performance was Tom Aldred's 2hr25min marathon, which gained him 30th place at the Amsterdam marathon. New member Kevin Gadd came in comfortably under 3 hours, and our most prolific marathoner Ursula Wilson was sixth in her age group with a commendable 3hr15min. Closer to home, Dominic Jackson and Rick Hewitt achieved PBs at the Abingdon marathon and there were PBs aplenty at the ever popular Cabbage Patch 10.
Read MoreHeathside's cross-country runners made a solid, if unspectacular start to the Met League season on Saturday afternoon. After heavy rain during the week, the course was slippery, soft and muddy, which made it tough going on all competitors, and a wake-up call for those of us who have been enjoying smooth, flat running tracks all summer. Many thanks to the 50 or so Heathside members who took part.
Read MoreThere were two main contingents of Heathsiders racing this beautiful autumnal weekend, taking in a Chingford League fixture in Trent Park - where James Wooldridge was second in the young athletes race - and the 15km Ridgeway Run, with a super 10th place for Dan McKeown in the Coventry Half one of a scattering of other results.
Read MoreAn exciting weekend for races – with Wormwood Scrubs definitely being the place to be seen on Saturday afternoon, for the SEAA Cross Country Relay championships. Elsewhere over the weekend (that I know about) there were half marathons in the Royal Parks and Blenheim Palace, a marathon in South Africa, and various parkruns... apologies for any results that have been left out.
Read MoreThere were Heathsiders all over the place this weekend, with a massive turnout and some brilliant runs at the Middlesex 10k, a hardy group of raiders at the Berlin Marathon, a handful of hypothermic triathletes and much more!
Read MoreThis weekend saw the cross country season kick off with a decent turnout at the St Albans relays and a confident start from our women's teams who came first and fifth, with Sue and Sarah running the second and third fastest legs of the day.
