Another great performance from the SAL team securing 2nd place in match 3 behind hosts Wycombe. There was one event win with Wayne Barnes in the Men's steeplechase. Elsewhere a stream of great performances and athletes filling in (esp womens captain on the day Genevieve) saw the team over the line.

Great to be back out at Little Marlow on Sunday, and another superb team effort from both squads. We finished a comfortable 2nd in our grouping on 231.8 points, second only to Wycombe and Chiltern (263.8), and clear of Woodford Green with Essex Ladies (203), Swindon (196.8) and Havering (168.8). Thames Valley Harriers topped the overall sheet on 316.8, but as ever we only go head-to-head with them in Round 1, so another really strong day in the standings.
Men's standout performances
Three event wins on the men's side:
Samuel Macaulay won the A 3000m steeplechase in 9:43.66 and picked up the top men's Man of the Match score on the day (801 points). And he did it the hard way. Sam suffered a severe spike gash from a competitor at the very first water jump but gutted it out to finish the race, which is remarkable in itself, and even more so given it was his first ever steeplechase (and quite possibly his last!). On top of all that, he'd already started the 1500m earlier in the day, a race that had to be abandoned mid-race when an enormous metal pole vault cover was blown onto the track. A proper day of adversity, met with real toughness.
Wayne Morley made it a steeplechase double for us, winning the B 3000m steeplechase in 10:25.72. Reliable points as always.
Thomas Wassermann took the B 110m hurdles win in 17.32, part of another huge multi-event shift (more below).
Okiki Olugunna again showed the value of a specialist triple jumper, taking 2nd in the A Triple Jump with 12.42m, and adding 3rd in the B Long Jump (5.44m).
Mu'Izz Ottun jumped well for 2nd in the A Long Jump (5.86m).
Mikel Alexander ran a strong 2nd in the A 200m (22.83), backing up 3rd in the B 100m (11.74).
Montana Dennis was 2nd in the A 110m hurdles (16.87), and Carlos Mingoes picked up 3rd in the A 100m (11.28).
Versatility and stepping in where needed
Thomas Wassermann was everywhere again, covering five events across the day: the B 110m hurdles win, plus the A 400m hurdles (3rd, 61.17), A high jump (3rd, 1.70), A pole vault and A javelin. Remarkable range.
A huge thank you to Fabio Espirito Santo and Justin Reid, who turned up to run the 5000m for us in really hot and windy conditions, securing some super valuable points for the team when we badly needed the events filled. Exactly the kind of team-first effort that makes the difference.
Stephen Booth did a full throws and vault shift, picking up 3rd in the B Hammer (19.56m) along with the shot, discus, javelin and B pole vault.
Robin Hardy covered three throws (shot, discus and hammer), taking 4th in the B Discus (23.43m).
Taha Abdullah doubled up again in the B 400m hurdles and B triple jump, and a nod to Dylan Mills for a strong A 800m (2:00.37 as an U18).
Women's standout performances
Asia Emanuel – a standout sprinting performance, taking 2nd in the A 100m in 12.90s, before producing another excellent 2nd place in the A 100m hurdles in 15.61s.
Noelle O’Regan – one of the day’s strongest performers, securing 2nd in the B 400m in 62.24s and an excellent 3rd in the A discus with 26.75m, as well as 4th in the hammer.
Amelie Randall – produced a superb performance in the A 3000m, stepping up from the 1500m to claim 3rd in 10:59.33.
Genevieve Weston – enjoyed an excellent distance double, taking 3rd in the B 1500m (6:04.10) and 3rd in the B 3000m (12:16.48), while also adding 3rd in the B discus.
Magdeline Paitoo – showed her versatility across the hurdles, taking 2nd in the B 100m hurdles in 17.81s and 4th in the A 400m hurdles in 73.18s.
Molly Harrison – delivered an impressive all-round contribution, securing 2nd in the B 2000m steeplechase in 12:06.86 while also competing across a huge range of field events.
Ely Angel DaSilva – added another excellent result with 2nd in the B pole vault, contributing valuable points to the team.
Grace Vollers – made a strong SAL debut, finishing 6th in the A 800m and gaining valuable experience at league level.
