Heathside takes clean sweep at Middlesex 10k champs
One highlight of a busy Heathside week was our athletes taking a clean sweep of the Middlesex 10k Road Championship, winning the men’s and women’s categories, the men’s and women’s Masters and both first and second places in the men’s V50 Masters. Individual golds went to Sam Macaulay (1st in 31:44), Rebecca Piggot (1st W in 35:56), Tom Aldred (1st V40 and 2nd overall). Sam also won the Chingford League 5k on Tuesday. Another impressive performance was Josie Hinton’s 2:52:18 in the Chester Marathon, making her the second veteran and the 5th woman overall, while our U15 boys took an impressive sixth place in the national road relay championships.
MIDDLESEX 10K ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS, Victoria Park, Sunday October 5

Spartathlon Ultramarathon, Athens, Sunday September 27
Dominic Jones reports that he ran the Spartathlon in Greece. The Spartathlon is a 153 mile ultramarathon that recreates the journey from Athens to Sparta that the Greek messenger Pheidippides is said to have undertaken before the Battle of Marathon.
He wrote: ‘The route starts at the foot of the Acropolis and follows roads past a range of historical sites including the Corinth canal, finishing at the foot of the statue of King Leonidas in Sparta. There's over 3000m of elevation gain, including an ascent of the 1200m Mount Parthenion 100 miles into the race.
‘The winners were Radek Brunner of Czech Republic in 21 hours 24 mins and Andrea Morocza of Hungary in 25 hours and 9 minutes. I arrived in Sparta in 26 hours 15 mins for 14th place, where I was offered the customary finisher's award of an olive wreath and a sip of water from the River Evrotas.’
Parkruns
There were wins for Rebecca Buntin in Hampstead Heath (19:11), Louisa Pointon in Gunpowder (20:13) and Ania Borowska in Las Llagiewnicki (23:30). In all, 93 of our runners took part in 34 Parkruns. Full results here
