Charlie Nicolson seventh in Nationals
Andy Owen and Peter Gould with former Heathside stalwart Dan McKeown in the middle.
The highlight of the week was the National Cross Country championships in Sedgefield which saw two of our junior teams (U15 boys and U20 men) taking fifth places. The best individual Heathside performance was Charlie Nicolson’s seventh place in the U15 boys (just 21 second behind the winner).
ECCA National Championships, Sedgefield, Saturday, February 21
Twenty-seven of our athletes (18 of them juniors) travelled to Sedgefield to take part in the National Cross-Country Championships.
There were some outstanding performances topped by Charlie Nicolson’s seventh place out of 261 finishers in the U15 4km event. He led the U15s to a strong fifth team place. Charlie was followed by Alex Kirk (55th) and Filip Kounoupas-Prastalo (78th).
Amy Kirk (35th out of 157) was the first of our U17 girls and Dylan Mills (42nd out of 209) was the first of our U17 boys.
Fred Beale (76th out of 132) was first home among our U20 men, who picked up an impressive fifth team place. Fred was followed by Taran Parke Antonis (92nd) and Arthur Blackburn (102nd).
Seven senior Heathside women took part with Lucy Browne (79th out of 531) the first home, followed by Lily Woolcock (108th) and Hester Hill (146th). As a team, they took 13th place.
Rather alarmingly, only two of our men took part. Pete Gould was the first Heathsider (156th out 1,046), followed by V55 Andy Owen (871st)
It was good to see two former Heathside stalwarts, Dan McKeown (Ilkley) and Paul Lemmon (Bingley) taking part.
