It was a pretty quiet bank holiday weekend (racing-wise) as marathon season draws to an end and there is a shift to shorter races and track and field. Many Heathsiders took the opportunity to head to Sandy Balls for the annual club Training Weekend in the beautiful New Forest for a mix of running, cycling and swimming. The main racing event for Heathside at the weekend was the first MYAL of the season in Perivale where a well earned second place was secured. And Sara Black did well in a Half Ironman in Marbella coming second in age.

The week saw club participation in road races across the distance spectrum, from a Marathon at Milton Keynes, to 10K & 5K races. There was also Track & Field action from Parliament Hill. Olivia Desborough recorded a win at the Battersea Park 10K, and new club records were set for Men V65 5K & U15 Girls Discus

This week’s big report is, of course, on the London Marathon. The Heathside winners’ trophies went to James Hurrell who ran a PB of 2:28:42 and Sarah Swinhoe, who, in her 53rd year, ran a time of 2:55:23, the second fastest V50 marathon in the UK this year.

The spring marathon season is well upon us now with Heathsiders running in Manchester, Rotterdam and Boston last weekend. The sunny Easter holiday last weekend meant that it was a fairly quiet week for racing, with just two events to report on: the Befit Today Open with a speedy 100m from Gabriel Edwards, and the St Albans 10K, in which Sarah Swinhoe continued to rewrite the club’s women’s V50 records.

There was a good cross section of events in the past week from track at the World Masters Championships in Poland, a 5k in Hyde Park, a marathon in Brighton, half marathons in Berlin, and Fulham and the Road Relays at the Olympic Park. And of course Parkruns. There are also some late results from last week.

There was club participation across a number of races over distances from half marathon upwards, and this saw a victory for George Gurney at the Orion 15 and a new club 20mile record for Tom Aldred at Hillingdon. In addition the final XC race of the season took place at Trent Park, plus there was participation at Masters track champs and a quick 5K time from Belfast

The NWLL, Chingford and Sunday Leagues all reached their conclusion last weekend (or the weekend before) with Heathside runners also representing Middlesex in the Inter-Counties Race at Loughborough (the effective British XC Championships) and lots of indoor and road racing it was a very busy week.

It was a fairly quiet week, with quality and distance covered making up for quantity. We have fantastic performances in the Tokyo marathon, an ultra in Sherwood Pines and a first V50 position for Sarah Swinhoe in Battersea park.
