Sunday 17th June saw the club host this season’s third Middlesex Youth Athletics League meeting at Finsbury Park. In it’s second season the League grows in popularity and Sunday saw a record 687 performances and 14 meeting records over the action packed afternoon schedule.

Lots of prizes for Heathsiders at the weekend: Adrian Essex (V65) and Ivan Ross (V40) both won silver medals in the British Masters’ Championships; Amy Cook was the first woman in the Regent’s Park 10k, while Pete Crockford, Sara Black and Sue Eeedle won age group prizes; Rebecca Bunting came second in the Worthing 10k, beating her PB by more than a minute, and Kelly Thorneycroft came second in her 3,000m UK Women’s League race.

A great result in MYAL with Heathside juniors currently in third place, with the next fixture being on home turf as well as a busy bank holiday weekend. This started with the Last Friday of the Month 5K and then Heathsiders joining Sir Mo on Monday in the London Vitality 10,000.

With Croydon very near the top of the league table in 2017 (just a single point off promotion), which included a victory over Heathside on neutral ground in Havering, we were a little apprehensive over taking on a strong team in their backyard.

With the SAL report to come later, the main event of this report was undoubtedly our local race, the Crouch End 10K. By all accounts it was a great success, the races went smoothly and the event was well marshalled with a large number of Heathsiders contributing to the volunteering effort.
Read MoreHeathside's Veteran track and field athletes made a fair start to the league on Monday evening (14th May) at Lee Valley. Unusually for the first meeting of the season there were no defective brass monkeys to be found, although the wind did drive the pole vaulters indoors.
