Road races take centrestage in this week’s report due to a fine first place finish for Katy Webster in the Pride 10k and the team prize for our men in the Burnham Beeches Half Marathon, while talented youngster Darnell Plummer competed in the Southern Counties championships.
Read MoreIt’s not every week that we get to lead our report with an announcement that we have produced a world champion, but that’s exactly what happened in Ottawa, Canada when our very own Clare Miller won the world age group gold medal in the World Duathlon Championships. Well, we didn’t exactly produce Clare, but she is one of us and she did brilliantly. And when we say ‘age group gold medal’ we’re talking the 25 to 29-year-olds. Yeah, Clare is the fastest under-30 duathlete in the whole wide world.
Read MoreOn the recent surge of cycling popularity, Captain Chris had this to say, via Facebook: "Today, Chris Hartley, member of London Heathside, will be running. Remember running?" Just imagine how peevish he's going to be when the cross country season kicks off and half of us are away mountain biking.
Read MoreThere was a clutch of triathlons (the collective term, or perhaps that should be a triumph of triathlons) this weekend (well Milton Keynes and Zurich), some impressive performances on the track and various road races ranging from 5ks to half marathons which kept many Heathsiders busy in the past week. There were also some cycling sportives to add to the mix.
Read MoreIt was yet another hot weekend and Heathsiders were out competing at Parliament Hill track in the SAL, Elspeth was first lady in the Deal 10k, and Clare Miller was first lady by some 15 minute margin at the Grafham Water duathlon. In the SAL the club is still in relegation zone.

Read MoreThere is just a scattering of results to report this week, lots of shorter races including a great result from Tammela who ran a 5k back in her home town in New York State. At Milton Keynes Clare Miller had a great run in the NSPCC Half Marathon, finshing in 88min23sec and placing third woman in what must have been very tough conditions. There was also the Regents Park 10k where despite soaring temperatures Rob Bowler achieved a PB. Daniel Szajna reports that the youngsters had great races at the Battersea park relays on Monday night with Miron, James and Daniel coming in third among the senior men, and Alex, Charlie and David storming first place in the Under 16's. Dan Madams and Steve Monaghan also ran the 5k on Monday, coming in 10th and 12th amongst a high quality field.
Read MoreThere was a hatful of track and field results this week, with Heathsiders popping up at the South of England Championships and the London Inter-Club Challenge. In this latter, Eugene scored PBs in the 100 and 200, with Henry landing a PB of 1.70 in the high jump. We had a huge turnout in the LICC (do we pronounce it 'lick'?) and no doubt there's plenty more to come over the summer months.
Read MoreWhen this weekend started out looking suspiciously quiet I should have known it wasn’t because club members were hanging their running shoes up.......... On the contrary, as I discovered, it was because they were running even more, and even further away than usual..... on ever more exotic and challenging adventures. The main event locally was our own Hampstead Midsummer 10k on Sunday – with 42 Heathsiders participating, and more helping out - we also had two runners coming first in two Parkruns. But further afield Heathsiders were also to be found amongst other places in the Cotswolds (a hilly 12 miler), on a three day corporate challenge on Dartmoor, in Estonia and Tromso (marathons), and last weekend in New York (5K) and in Berlin (triathlon).
Read MoreAn impressive batch of 27 Heathside athletes took part in the Southern Athletics League event in Ipswich and between them they picked up 19PBs and scores of SBs. There were so many commendable performances that it’s hard to pick out one for especial mention. There were splendid showings from Emmanuel Nwaobodo (who managed a PB of 11.1 in winning the 100m – one of eight events he entered). Lily Beckford, still under 17, won the women’s 400m by 0.7 secs in 58.4 seconds and picked up a PB of 25.8 in the women’s 200m.
