The main event of the weekend was the Middlesex County champs at Lee Valley, which took place over two days. There was plenty to celebrate for Heathsiders with some great PBs and SBs. (See the full results below.) There were undoubtedly a few of you at the Edinburgh marathon, but full results are not available yet so we will write that up next week.
Read MoreThere were three big events this week for the club – Crouch End 10K (plus 250m) and Fun Runs, the SAL and the Hackney Half. The Crouch End event had the largest number of Heathsiders in attendance, with many of them winning various trophies including first male and female. The SAL despite having a smallish turnout did well and results at the Hackney Half were impressive.
Read MoreHeathside came last in this Saturday’s SAL fixture. It is a disappointing result, but admittedly it was always going to be a tough match as we were up against some top clubs. On the plus side we had new faces volunteering and some quality PBs.
Read MoreSlim but still-inspiring pickings this weekend, by our usual hyper-competitive standards – partly because many of our finest were running (or drinking) their legs off at the splendidly-named Sandy Balls. Still, at least 31 of our runners took part in races last week (and next week the post-marathon season really kicks off with the Crouch End 10k).
Read MoreAfter the excitement of the London Marathon last weekend was a quieter weekend for Heathsiders, the main events being the first Southern Athletics League fixture of the year, the Greater Manchester marathon, as well as the usual scattering of parkruns. Paul and Stephanie (half way through her pregnancy) were at the Willesden aquathlon, where Paul tried to swim backstroke (being his fastest stroke) and was told to revert to front crawl half way through. (Paul do see the Heathside triathlon section about swim training if you like!). I also need to add a late London marathon result which was over looked last week, apologies to Rob Watts who finished in 5.01.40.
Read MoreAfter doing us proud over the cross-country season our young athletes showed that they can deliver fantastic results pounding the pavements, too, producing eight top 50 finishes in the prestigious Mini-Marathon last Sunday, including a superb third place in the U15 Girls race for talented Lucy Carter.
Read MoreAfter months of training in arctic conditions, we naturally had brilliant weather for the London Marathon again. I was as red as the Russian Revolution afterwards and I'm sure I wasn't the only one.
Read MoreSpring marathon fever continues unabated, and this weekend it was the turn of two popular venues - Rotterdam, and Brighton. Brighton is now in its fourth year with more runners than ever before taking part, 11 of them being Heathsiders. Also over the weekend a large group took part in the Thames Towpath 10, numerous parkruns were run (where notably Dan hit the big five – o, and Sue Rust came in first woman at Finsbury Park), a duathlon at Dorney, and a half marathon in East London.
Read MoreAnthony Hall and Alex Weatherill launched the Spring marathon season in fine style in Paris on Sunday. Cheered on by Heathside’s one man support squad (Tom Aldred), Anthony shattered his previous PB (set only six months ago) by more than eight minutes, crossing the line in 2:47:44 – and, clearly, there are even faster times to come. “I tied up a lot at the end so not quite what I had hoped for,” he said, “but generally pleased with the overall outcome.”
