After the excitement of the London Marathon last weekend was a quieter weekend for Heathsiders, the main events being the first Southern Athletics League fixture of the year, the Greater Manchester marathon, as well as the usual scattering of parkruns. Paul and Stephanie (half way through her pregnancy) were at the Willesden aquathlon, where Paul tried to swim backstroke (being his fastest stroke) and was told to revert to front crawl half way through. (Paul do see the Heathside triathlon section about swim training if you like!). I also need to add a late London marathon result which was over looked last week, apologies to Rob Watts who finished in 5.01.40.

Read MoreSpring marathon fever continues unabated, and this weekend it was the turn of two popular venues - Rotterdam, and Brighton. Brighton is now in its fourth year with more runners than ever before taking part, 11 of them being Heathsiders. Also over the weekend a large group took part in the Thames Towpath 10, numerous parkruns were run (where notably Dan hit the big five – o, and Sue Rust came in first woman at Finsbury Park), a duathlon at Dorney, and a half marathon in East London.

Cheered on by Heathside’s one man support squad (Tom Aldred), Anthony shattered his previous PB (set only six months ago) by more than eight minutes, crossing the line in 2:47:44 – and, clearly, there are even faster times to come. “I tied up a lot at the end so not quite what I had hoped for,” he said, “but generally pleased with the overall outcome.”
Read MoreThe Easter weekend seems to have been a relatively quiet one for racing based on results feedback so far, but we had Heathsiders putting themselves through the paces over distances ranging from 60m indoors to 13.1 miles in preparation of the outdoor track season or marathons, or with other worthy targets in mind.
Read MoreWith most warming up for spring Marathons (whenever spring arrives, confound it) a swarm of Heathsiders braved the drizzly, grisly conditions and caprices of TfL to compete in the Finchley 20.
Read MoreJust when we thought it was safe to put away our woolly hats and gloves, winter returned at the weekend with bitter winds and freezing conditions, but it didn't stop six hardy Heathsiders heading up to the Midlands for one of the last cross country events of the season - to compete for Middlesex (and South Wales) in the Inter Counties and World XC Trials in Birmingham. Many others were also unphased by the weather, and were kept busy with assorted Park Runs, half marathons, duathlons, a Vets cross country race and the BMAF Masters UK Indoor Champs. And two sun seekers vacated the country altogether!
Read MoreTo wrap up a superb cross country season our U15 and U17 female young athletes took home North West London league titles on Saturday while James topped the individual table for the U17 men. Add to that several top three results in the Mini-Marathon trials on Sunday and we know we have some fine young talent to look after.
