Lily Beckford clocked a sub-60 second 400m on Wednesday to move into the top 20 UK rankings for her age group. Knocking 2.65s off her previous PB she ran 59.68s to win her race at the Watford Graded Open. That time places her at number 19 in the U17 400m rankings.
Read MoreStar performer this weekend was Jacob Wilson with a bronze medal-winning long jump in the South of England U20 Champs at Crystal Palace, although with a first place age group finish for Jackie Wastell in the Bournemouth tri, LICC PBs, and more great running by Elspeth the good news doesn’t end there.
Read MoreThe main club fixture this weekend was the penultimate Southern Men’s League match, in Mile End, with our team turning out in impressive numbers to finish a very creditable third. Earlier in the week Mo was the fastest of eight Heathsiders tackling the 1500m in Watford, in a PB of 4:10.76.
Read MoreThis weekend was busy, despite the rain, with a good turnout at the Park Runs on Saturday (Elspeth Storrer was first woman in the Hampstead Heath race), and of course with our very own Hampstead Midsummer 10k.
Read MoreThe weekend was dominated by the 4th fixture in the Rob Jackson road race champs, the Bishop’s Stortford 10 mile race which was a brand new addition to the champs this year. I feel I should apologise to those runners who turned up rightly expecting a race in the road race champs to be on a surface which would at least resemble … road. I suppose the only excuse for misinformation is that for many years this was a road race (Jacob Howe and Caroline White, having run it pre 2005 would testify to this fact…). So the dozen or so Heathsiders who started the race were more than surprised to hit deep mud within the first mile, followed by all manner of bumpy surfaces including rough farm tracks and long grass. But I am sure they nevertheless enjoyed their frolic in the countryside and we did return home with not only muddy legs and suntans, but also the ladies’ team prize and an individual prize for Gavin. A great morning’s work by all as this was indeed a tough course, described as ‘Orion light’ by those in the know. (Orion 15 being the toughest cross country race in the UK…).
Read MoreHighlights for this week’s race report include Katy placing first woman in the St Albans Half in a new PB, a decent turnout at the track & field fixtures with some vital support from our U17 ladies in the SAL Parliament Hill match, and belated news from the Comrades Marathon in South Africa and the Stockholm Marathon
Read MoreThere were plenty of Heathsiders out racing this Jubilee weekend, taking in events such as the latest Regents Park 10k, the Plymouth marathon, the Welsh Champs, the Hillingdon triathlon, and a rather interesting 17 laps of a cyclopark in Kent that provided Phillip Hogg with a marathon PB.
Read MoreThere’s a bit of a Scottish theme to this week’s race report, led in particular by Ken Heney and an east coast adventure that, after 32.4 miles of racing (not counting training and other, non-running racing) over three weekends, culminated in the Edinburgh marathon, where Fiona also made a strong debut as part of a pack of six Heathsiders.
Read MoreFighting spirit and low turnout were the themes of our senior teams' track & field competitions this weekend, with the former unfortunately not enough to compensate for the latter, although both teams came last only by narrow margins - the narrowest possible in the case of the SML team.
Read MoreThe main event for our club road runners this weekend was the Crouch End 10k in which 66 Heathsiders raced. At the front end it was an impressive battle with Michael Stocks racing against 2 Harriers to finish third, finishing well over a minute ahead of the rest of the runners. After that the top 20 finishers in the race were predominantly Heathsiders with many of our men achieving PBs. For the women it was also a closely fought race with Iva Raykov running an excellent race, in second place throughout. The team prizes for women and men were both awarded to Heathside, with scoring teams comprising Michael Stocks, Rob Salter and Edward Garrett for the men, and Iva, Edie Fassnidge and Miranda Yau for the women.
