Vaxjo International, Sheffield indoor championships and a win in Battersea

This week’s race report includes belated results from the NWL YA league, action from Sweden, indoor championships in Sheffield and 10Ks in Battersea and Regents park.  It would have also featured the final race of the Met league in Trent Park, had it not been cancelled because of a waterlogged course resulting from the recent persistent rain.

NWL YA XC League, Hampstead Heath Extension, 31.1.26

There were great runs at the NWL YA XC League on the Heath extension just over a week ago, featuring podium finishes for Louis Charlwood (U17 men) and Rose Schofield and Lettice Grundy (U17 women).

Vaxjo International, Vaxjo (Sweden) 7.2.26

Simon sent the following report from Vaxjo:

“Elkie Baker travelled as part of a young England team to Sweden to take part in the Vaxjo International throwing meeting, which takes place on an indoor football pitch.  Despite the odd surroundings and having fouled her first two throws she recovered to manage a respectable season opening 39.63m to finish 5th behind the winner who is ranked 2nd in Europe with a 48.56m throw.   It was overall a very successful trip for the English team which registered 2 national records, and 5 athletes achieve European U18 Championship qualification standard.”
