UYDL 3 Division 2B - Finsbury Park - 6 July
The highlight of the week was undoubtedly the performances in the Youth Development League fixture held on home ground, as Simon Baker reports on the transformation in the team’s fortunues ;
“ A fantastic team performance on Sunday saw the Club's U17 and U20 athletes (combined with Highgate Harriers) host the 3rd and final UYDL match of the season. Going into the last match in 2nd place in the league the team knew only a win would secure promotion for the first time to Division One. They all rose to the occasion and secured the victory by a margin of over 100 pts. With the previous league leaders Epsom & Ewell finishing 4th it also mean't the team secured 1st place in the League. An amazing journey over the last 3 years when we re-joined the league as part of a composite team which then also included VPH&TH. The team generally finished last.
Sunday saw a host of great performances with wins for:-
U20M - Trey Corlis (100m, 200m, 110mH), Sam Brown (400m), Marcel Baczek (JT) and 4x100m relay.
U20W - Asia Emanuel (100m), Elkie Baker (U17) (DT) and 4x100m
U17M - Malakai David McKenzie Callum (100m, 100mH), Mikel Alexander (200m), Dylan Mills (800m), 4x100m and 4x400m.
Elkie Baker, Trey Corlis and Malakai all has top 10 performances for the meeting.
Well done to all the athletes for their dedication and efforts this season and also to team manager Israel whose dedication and encouragement has been the driving force behind the team's success. “ Results below :

SAL #2 Report Kingston 21 June
Team Captains Richard Macaulay and Lily Woolcock’s report for the most recent SAL fixture, which happened on 21 June, can be found below : A full list of the results can be found in the previous “ 3rd Place in the SAL “ race report
“ ..a coach load full of Heathsiders made the trip to Kingston for our first away fixture in the division 1 of the Southern Athletics League and finished a very respectable 3rd (out of 6 teams), cementing our position as a top division club! This was especially the case with exams and holidays impacting the team but our strength in depth meant that we were able to put out complete teams for both men and women.
Despite a hot and windy day, there were some very impressive performances across the team.
On the men's side, some standout performances included Sam Macaulay, winning the 3000 in 8:50 and following that up with another victory in the 1500 in 4:03! which helped us get near maximum points in these events with Chris Gracie (4:06 2nd B 1500) and Arthur Hawkes (9:19 1st B 3000) following closely behind with PBs.
Kudos to Sam Brown who ran a 51 second 400 early in the day, then spent the rest of the afternoon revising for his exams trackside, before anchoring the 4x400 A string relay in the final event of the day.
As usual, we were very strong in the sprints with Carlos Mingoes coming 2nd in the A race 100m (11.3) and Mu'izz Ottun (11.4) winning the B race and culminating in winning the 4x100 relay
Wayne Morley ran a very impressive 2000 steeplechase alongside Pete Wooton, putting into practice some top coaching from Tony Killilea to get a very credible 2nd place in the A race and 3rd in the B race, respectively.
Massive credit, as always, to our invaluable multi-eventers for chipping in as and where needed, including Thomas Wassermann (PV, 110mH, 400mH), Malakai (HJ, LJ), Ivan Ross (PV, 400mH, javelin) and Stephen Booth (shot put, discus and 110mH). Massive thanks to Stephen in particular for jumping in on the day to do his first high hurdles in almost three decades to get a 2nd place in the B race!!
Also a big shout out to SAL debutant Jake Kitchener who, in addition to a 3000, also filled in with scoring performances in the Triple Jump and High Jump.
The Heathside women brought depth, determination and dazzling performances to the second Southern Athletics League fixture of the season. From powerful throws to gutsy distance runs and jumps, this was a day where every event counted—and the women's team delivered across the board.
In the sprints, Asia Emanuel led the charge with a swift 13.0 to place 3rd in the 100m A string, followed closely by Magdeline Paitoo in the B string (13.2s, 3rd). Asia returned for a tough 200m A string (27.0s, 4th), with Samiyah Wilson hot on her heels in the B string (27.2s, 3rd). Over 400m, Isabella Watkins put in a strong shift for 4th in the A race (62.2s), while Hester Hill stormed to victory in the B string, clocking 62.7s and bagging maximum points.
The hurdles crew showed up strong as ever. Hester Hill opened with the 100m hurdles (23.5s, 5th), with Molly Harrison again showing her range in the B string (23.3s, 4th). Lily Woolcock took on the 400m hurdles A string with trademark grit (79.3s, 6th), and Magdeline Paitoo stepped up in the B string with a brilliant 2nd-place finish (75.9s), scoring vital points for the team.
Middle-distance races were a showcase of consistency. Isabella Watkins claimed 3rd in the 800m A string (2:24.8), with Ruby Walls following up in the B (2:46.3, 4th). Over 1500m, Millie Watkins took a solid 3rd in the A string (4:54.8 - well under her target of sub 5 and the first time she's dipped under this mark in over a year!), while Kiara Corkin ran a fearless race to win the B string (5:08.4), a big thank you and well done to the support from the young athletes.
Heathside women continued to dominate the distance events. In the 3000m, Lily Woolcock broke away from the competition to take 1st in the A string in the last 100m (10:36.7), while Francesca Stocco made it a double win in the B (11:04.8) with another smooth and controlled performance during her post marathon return. In the steeplechase, Millie Watkins showed impressive form to take 4th in the A race (5:50.3) 20 minutes after her 1500 race, while Millie Watkins stormed to a B string win (5:54.4) to cap off a full middle-distance shift.
The jumps squad showed off their versatility and power, with Hester Hill again featuring heavily. She cleared 1.38m in the high jump (6th A string) and added a 2.15m PB in the pole vault (4th A string). Francesca Stocco backed her up in the high jump B string with 1.33m for 3rd - very impressive from a long distance athlete returning to HJ for the team having not competed in the event since school! In the long jump, Chileshe Gotch went 4.33m (5th A), and Sian Adeyemi won the B string with a tidy 4.24m. Then came the triple jump clean sweep, with Sian jumping 9.62m for 4th A and Chileshe winning the B string with 9.33m—a phenomenal pairing in a tough field.
In the throws, Elkie Baker stole the show. Her monster discus throw of 41.61m secured a convincing A string victory, PB and was one of the standout performances of the entire meet. Noelle O'Regan was not far behind, winning the B string (25.65m) and returning to place 4th in both the shot put (9.65m A) and hammer (21.68m A). A MASSIVE well done to Noelle for not only winning these vital points but also broke 3 club records in all three of these throws. Ivy Paitoo added valuable points with a 2nd in the shot B (8.19m), keeping Heathside well and truly in the throws conversation. Molly and Abigail continued to rake in points with the javelin.
And finally a massive massive thanks to all the volunteers who came along to make the event happen, including Dulce, Adrian Essex, Jerry, Dave Walton, Emily Targett and Tony Killilea! “
