FP5000s, MYAL and U15 1500 Club record
A bumper report this week featuring the splendid Heathside-organised Night of the 5000s at Finsbury Park, the Middlesex Young Athletes League in Harrow, the Eastern Masters AC Championship in Sandy, Bedfordshire and the Watford Harriers Open Graded Meeting where U15 Charlie Nicolson delivered the performance of the week, breaking the club 1500 age group record to finish in a startling time for one so young of 4:08:77.
Finsbury Park Night of the 5000s, Friday June 28 2025
In a wonderfully-well-organised night of running, cheering, eating and drinking, 170 athletes took part in our club’s annual Night of the 5000s event. A huge cheer for Kim Butler and her large and enthusiastic team of organisers and helpers. We were treated to a brass band, an efficient electronic scorecard and ample food, beer and snacks and the races started on time, and the seeding was so precise that each of the races was competitive.
The fastest runner of the night was, as usual, our Seyfu Jamaal who finished in 14:45 (47 seconds off his PB still an excellent time) to win the seventh and last race of the night. The fastest woman was Niamh Bridson-Hubbard of Blackheath & Bromley (and Cambridge University) who finished in 16:05 to come a very close second in the sixth race. The fastest Heathside woman was Rebecca Piggott, who worked her way through the field in the fifth race to finish in 17:31.
Race 1 was won by Highgate’s Alberto Pose (20:38) and Heathsider Anna Borowska-Sonmez (a PB of 21:52).
Race 2 was won by a full 15 seconds by Heathsider Filipe Cardoso in 19:08, and Heathsider Molly Harrison in a PB of 20:01. Gavin Evans, running on Comrades legs, broke the club V65 record in 20:42.
Race 3 was won by Southwark runner Philip Reilly in a PB time of 17:54 and Heathside’s U20 Millie Watkins in a PB time of 18:29.
Race 4 was won by St Albans runner Henry Jones in a PB of 17:05 and Heathside’s Lilly Woolcock in 18:04.
Race 5 was won by Trent Park’s Matt Hogsden in 16:30 and Heathside’s Rebecca Piggott in 17:31.
Race 6 was won by Mikhail Krivomazov (16:03.97) who just pipped the fastest woman of the night Niam Bridson-Hubbard (16:05:03) of Blackheath & Bromley overtaking her in the last few meters.
Race 7 was won by Heathside’s Seyfu Jamaal in 14:45, nearly ten seconds ahead of the Poole runner Jame Grose. Also impressive was Tom Aldred who broke his own club V45 record (from last year) finishing in 15:32.
