UK Youth Development League and Mini-Marathon

As an additional report the Club’s young athletes took part on Saturday’s Mini-Marathon and on Sunday the U17 and U20 athletes headed to Brighton for the first League meeting of the year.

Simon Baker reports from the first Youth Development League meeting of the season at Brighton where a combined Heathside / Highgate team achieved 3rd Place overall

“The clubs league athletics season started with our U17/U20 athletes in combination with Highgate heading to Brighton for the first of three league matches this season.

Given the London Marathon and FA Cup semi final the team travelled by train which was going well until a power failure at Redhill.  As a result the team arrived late and missed the first 5 events of thd day.

However, our young athletes are resilient and with some reshuffling of events set about making up the difference.  Credit to Lila Blustin who ran her first ever Steeplechase winning the race just 20s outside her pb on the flat. Ennio Kaloukian also won his debut steeplechase race.  There were several athletes making Club debuts and the team received enthusiastic support from team mates in the stands throughout.

There were 14 event wins in total with Heathsider's Trey Corlis U20M 110mH, Thomas Wassermann U20M HJ, Mikel Alexander U17M 100m & 200m, Malakai U17M 100mH, Ennio Kaloukian U17M 1500mSC, Lila Blustin U17W 1500mSC, Elkie Baker U17W Discus, U17M 4x100m and 4x400m all contributing maximum points.  Our 3rd place means there is a real chance of promotion this season.

Thanks so much to Team Manager Israel and the parents who also helped.  The next match is 25th July in Kingston and last on 6th July at Finsbury Park. “
