Record SAL Finishing Position and Vets make League Final
The highlight this week is the Club’s Track and Field Team securing our highest ever position in the Southern Athletics League of 5th place. This follows the Club’s Men’s Vet team securing a place at the League final in September.
Elsewhere Heathsiders took part in a variety of opens and some road racing
Track and Field
SAL Div 1, Match 4, Harrow, 8.8.26
The Clubs SAL Team finished the season in style finishing 3rd (which as we are paired with TVH is actually 2nd) in the toughest match of the season at Harrow competing against a host of National League Clubs. There were event wins for Leon Seale (400m), George Warren (800m), Samuel Macaulay (3000m) and Hester Hill (1500mSC).
This great result sees the club finish 5th in Division 1 our highest ever placing and a testament to Lily and Richard’s team management. They report as following:-
Round 4 — Harrow, 8 August
A brilliant final push at Harrow on Saturday, and one of our strongest all-round displays of the season. On a hot and windy day, we finished 2nd in our grouping on 228.5 points, behind only Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow (290.5), and ahead of Harrow (226), Chelmsford (189.5) and Ipswich and Colchester & T (189.5). And the big news: this has now confirmed us as finishing 5th in the league overall, our best ever result! A fantastic way to cap off the campaign and a real reflection of the strength and depth we've built across the season.
Men's standout performances
Four event wins on the men's side, our best haul of the year:
Leon Seale was outstanding across the sprints, winning the A 400m in 49.26, with 2nd in both the A 100m (10.74) and A 200m (21.75). A huge points contribution and a brilliant addition to the squad.
George Warren won the A 800m in 1:56.04, a really classy front-running performance from gun to tape.
Samuel Macaulay won the A 3000m in 8:47.53 and was agonisingly close in the A 1500m, finishing 3rd in 4:07.79, just 0.17 of a second behind the winner (4:07.62) in an on-the-line finish.
Andy Barnes took the B 3000m win in 9:18.34, more valuable points from the M40s, and a special mention for Andy who made time to come and compete for us on his wife's birthday. Dedication above and beyond, and much appreciated.
Montana Dennis was 2nd in the A 110m hurdles (15.72), and Carlos Mingoes picked up 3rd in the B 100m (11.27).
Okiki Olugunna again delivered in the jumps, 3rd in the B Long Jump (5.37m) and 4th in the A Triple Jump.
Versatility and stepping in where needed
Thomas Wassermann was our multi-event man once more, covering four events: A 400m hurdles (63.33), A high jump (3rd, 1.68m), A pole vault and B discus. That flexibility is worth its weight in points.
Wayne Morley doubled up in the A steeplechase (6:39.74) and B 400m hurdles
Matty Hill made a fantastic athletic match debut - Matty stepped in across three very challenging events (high hurdles, steeplechase and high jump) demonstrating quality alongside quantity with a very credible a solid 4th in the B high jump, 1.58m
Stephen Booth and Robin Hardy anchored the throws across shot, discus, hammer and javelin between them, and Ivan Ross filled the B javelin. Taha Abdullah was 3rd in the B triple jump.
The 4x100m squad also ran well for 2nd in 42.67.
Women's standout performances
A really strong women's day, headlined by a steeplechase win:
Hester Hill won the A 1500m steeplechase in 5:36.66, and then covered the A 100m hurdles, A high jump (4th, 1.43m) and A pole vault (4th, 1.75m) on top. A phenomenal shift.
Elkie Baker was excellent in the A Discus, taking 2nd with 40.46m as an U18 (819 points), and adding 5th in the A Shot.
Lucy Browne ran a strong 2nd in the B 1500m (5:12.19), and Rebecca Quirke was 3rd in the A 400m (59.54).
Rachel McDonald took 3rd in the B 400m (61.47), and Cara Brown 3rd in the B 100m (13.25).
Lily Woolcock was 4th in the A 1500m (4:56.44), and Genevieve Weston picked up 3rd in the B 100m hurdles and 2nd in the B Pole Vault.
Hazel Guo ran nearly a 30s PB in the heat to come 5th in the 5000m A race in 21:06.46.
Versatility and stepping in where needed
Molly Harrison was the women's workhorse yet again, covering seven events including the B 800m, B steeplechase (3rd), A triple jump, A hammer, and a 2nd in the B Javelin (24.56m). Relentless.
Grace Vollers filled five events across track and field (A 800m, B high jump, B shot, and a 4th in the A Javelin at 30.37m), and Nelle Baker stepped in for the A 400m hurdles and took 3rd in the B triple jump.
Thanks too to Sian Adeyemi, Leysa Forrest, Zoe Zentner, and everyone who raced across the programme to keep the card full.
Volunteers and officials

End of season
That's the league campaign done, and finishing 5th in the league, our best ever result, is a fantastic effort from everyone. A massive thank you to all who competed, stepped in, officiated and supported throughout. We'll be in touch about end-of-season plans soon.
