Gold for Heathside women and silver for Heathside men in the London cross-country championships

 This week’s report is dominated by action at the London Cross-country championships, with great performances by the youngsters, a win for the women, silver position for Heathside men and outstanding individual runs.

 London Youth Games, Parliament Hill, 19.11.22

Simon sent in his first report from Parliament Hill:” Saturday morning saw the London Youth Games kick off the action on Parliament Hill.  Again London Heathside was well represented in the teams of Haringey, Islington and Hackney.  The outstanding performances were Hattie Munday's 7th in the U17 Women's race with club mate Milly Watkins helping Haringey win silver in the team competition.   Equally impressive was Amy Kirk's 8th in the U15 Girls race running against girls a year older.”

The start of the men’s race on Parliament Hill

 London Cross Country Championships, Parliament Hill, 19.11.22

Simon sent in the following (his second) report of the day from Parliament Hill “The grey skies of the morning broke to leave the Heath in beautiful late autumn sunshine as the seniors competed in the London Cross Country Championships over 6km and 10km courses.

Heathside women team at Partliament Hill

Brogan Wallace took silver to lead the senior women to the London XC title.  Brogan who finished 8th last year ran almost 2 minutes faster to just miss out on the individual title by 4s from Hanner Viner of Highgate Harriers.  The women who finished 3rd last year saw Rebecca Bunting finish 4th, Josie Hinton in 13th and Rebecca Piggott 20th to convincingly win the title by a margin of 55 points to 2nd placed Belgrave.

 The senior men who finished 4th last year almost matched the women taking a team silver.  Seyfu Jamaal again ran an exemplary race to finish 3rd with George Gurney and Joseph Young both in the top 15.  The scoring team was completed by Jem O'Flaherty in 23rd to round off an immensely successful day for the club.

Simon Baker sent in the following report from Lee Valley: “The results were delayed but the Lee Valley Minithon saw a number of the youngest Heathsiders compete with Kingston Bennett the fastest U11B in the 60m while Maddox Ageu was the fastest U11B in the 200m.   Plaudits however should go to Gabriel Edwards who set a new UK leading time and club record for an U13B in the 60m Hurdles his time of 9.64 was a PB by 0.71s and the fifth fastest UK all time by a U13B.. His 200m time was also a new club U13B record.”
