Middlesex Track and Field Championships and Geneva and Copenhagen marathons
This weeks report includes the results from the Middlesex County track and field event, Copenhagen and Geneva marathons, and several other half marathon, 10K and 5 mile races.
Even Lee Valley can look someway appealing in the Sunshine and so it was for the Middlesex County Championships with both days taking place under blue skies. The Athletics also rose to the occasion with 13 Championship records broken over the two days. These Championships are also a barometer of how far we have come as a club with 36 medals won of which 18 were Gold and there were 66 entries from London Heathside.
Of the Senior Men Carlos Mingoes who is the County 60m champions negotiated the qualifying rounds before producing 10.93s in the final just outside the medal positions. There was more success in the longer distances with Peter Otto winning silver in the 800m despite recovering from the London marathon. William De Cothi produced a blistering last 150m to take the 1500m title which he followed with a convincing 5000m win in the championships last event with Jordan Marshall taking silver. The senior women were less well represented with Gaelle Elisha competing in the 100m and 200m while Rachel McDonald won bronze in the 400m.
The Club had healthy numbers competing in the U20M and especially the sprints. Notable performances included Trey Corlis in the 110mH with his wind assisted time just 0.19s of UKA European U20 Championships qualification standard he followed by winning the 400mH. Thomas Wassermann showed his versatility with medals in the Hammer, Javelin, Shot Putt, 110mH and 400mH. Prithbi Raj Sharma won gold in High Jump and silver in Hammer and Long Jump. In the U20W Asia Emanuel and Magdeline Paitoo finished 5th and 6th in the 100m and 200m.
In the U17's probably the outstanding performance was Mikel Alexander's gold in the 200m. Middlesex is a sprinting county so to take a title takes some doing and produced two PB's to win medal in 22.51s a new club record. Dylan Mills produced good runs to take 3rd place in the 400m and 800m. Malakai recorded a hurdle double with 100mH and 400mH wins while Roderic Alonso Pascual won the High Jump. Medals for the U17W were harder to securewith Kyra Smith taking silver in the 300mH as did Ivy Paitoo in the Shot Put. Elkie Baker produced the furthest Discus throw in the UK by an U17W that weekend of 38.51m to take gold.
Gabriel Edwards produced a superb 80mH of 11.56s to set a Championship Best and is ranked UK No 3 he won slver in the Long Jump. Filip Koumouas Prastalo won the 800m in 2:11.24 and Charlie Nicolson showed some great front running to take the 1500m title. In the field Leonard Hewings took gold in the Shot Putt. There were no medals for the girls but Myler Miller made both 100m and 200m finals.
There were only two representatives in the U13 Boys with Ari Talear 3rd in the 75mH. Kamiah francis -Harriott and Emile Rose Bolvin Emina both made the 100m final, Emile winning bronze in the 200m and silver in the 70mH. Nancy Hewings won gold in the Shot Put. Hopefully they enjoyed their championships and look to do more.
