UYDL 1#, Hornchurch 19.4.26
Simon Baker snt in the following report from Hornchurch:
“The Club's U18 and U20 athletes opened their season with a superb 2nd place behind SBH at Havering on Sunday. Having been promoted last season the league has been restructured to ensure clubs are grouped locally to reduce travel times. SBH and hosts Havering were both Premiership Clubs last year to give some context on how good a performance this was.
The team also only filled 4 of 24 possible middle distance places showing there is potential to do even better. The team won both U20 categories and was 2nd in the U18 Women. There were event wins for Sam Brown (U20M 400m), Montana Dennis (U20M 110mH, Hammer), Jordan Gboho (U20M 400mH, High Jump), Louie Brook (U20M Discus), Monisade Ayodeji (U20W High Jump), Auguste Ramin (U18M 400mH) and Amani Osman (U18W High Jump).
Well done to all the athletes who showed willing to try other events to score points for the team. Special thanks go to Team. Managers Sonia and Israel and Jen, Simon and Alima who secured 40 vital officials points.”

Manchester marathon, 19th April 2026
Gavin Evans sent in the following report from Manchester:
At least 13 Heathsiders were among the almost 28,000 who completed the Manchester Marathon on Sunday (42,000 entrants).
Conditions were pretty good – no wind and clear sunny skies that helped bring out thousands of supporters along the way but, despite the sun, the temperature was mainly a coolish 14 degrees.
There were several outstanding performances but perhaps the most impressive was Josie Hinton's. Running in the England vest for the first time, Josie finished in 2:53:51. She was first among England's V40s and the fourth V40 woman overall (and the 13th of nearly 10,000 female finishers). Josie went through the half at 1:24:56.
The first Heathsider home was Scott Coller in an excellent 2:39:28, a PB. He went through the half in 1:20.33, meaning he did negative splits.
Ed Samuel was next in 2:47:09. He was hoping to go close to 2:40, which would have been magnificent for a V45, but too many gels too early prompted a vomiting stop at 30km, slowing him down. He went through the half in 1:20:08.
Next was David McCormick who finished in 2:51.35, followed by Oliver Wimshurst in 2:53.19. Both ran PBs.
The second Heathside woman was Becca Walker who finished her debut marathon in a very promising 3:13.36.
My own race was not so wonderful. Having run 1:28 in the half four weeks earlier I was hoping to go under 3:15 but my legs felt oddly heavy from the start and I ended up with 3:24:30.”
Congratulations go to Hannah Yip and David Ingamells, who had a great debut marathon. Hannah reports: “Perfect conditions for our maiden marathon -- mild and not too hot. I passed the half-way mark at exactly 2 hours, while David passed it at exactly 2:30. He managed a faster second half, whereas I found miles 23 to the end particularly testing (although I did manage a tiny sprint finish at the end). I'm especially pleased as I had only recovered from injury just in time to hop on to a 12-week training plan back in January! “
Results (27,977 finishers)
123rd Scott Coller – 2:39.28 (PB)
298th Ed Samuel (V45) – 2:47.08
516th David McCormick – 2:51.35 (PB)
609th Oliver Wimshurst – 2:53.19 (PB)
643rd Josie Hinton (V40) – 2:53.52 (13th woman, 4th V40, 1st England V40)
1768th Peter Otto – 3:06.18
2403rd Timothy Ferguson – 3:13:02
2475th Becca Walker – 3:13.36
3477th Adam Batchelor – 3:21.57
3859th Gavin Evans V65) – 3:24.30 (club V65 record, 7th V65)
6166th Phil McGaw – 3:37.32
7249th Fergus Kell – 3:43.19
12497th Hannah Yip – 4:06.19.
21072th David Ingamells - 04:54:34
Krakow marathon, 19th April 2026

Congratulations for first place finishes go to: Tom Livermore (Finsbury Park, 16:43), Lily Woolcock (Finsbury Park, 19:08), Fred Beale (Ally Pally, 17:47), Chloe Wilkinson (Ally Pally, 20:12), Conor Brown (Henlow Bridge, 18:16), Gregory Herneman (Aberdare, 18:33), Jose Sabroso (Sunny Hill, 19:06).
