Heathside 4th in SAL First Division
The big news this week was Heathside’s solid performance in the Southern Athletics League, to come fourth in our maiden season in the first division. Our runners also took part in 5k and 10 races in Battersea, the Sydney Marathon and we picked up seven wins in Parkruns on Saturday.
Southern Athletics League - Division 1, Round 4, Norwich, Saturday August 30
Simon Baker reports that Heathside put forth a “commendable effort” and finished in 4th place with a total score of 225 points ensuring we finish in the top half of the table in our first season in the 1st Division.
“Saturday saw us compete against the 3rd, 4th and 5th teams in the division including Chelmsford who had just missed promotion to the National League Premier Division and Harrow who have just been crowned National Club Champions.”

Men's Highlights:
100m: Mikel Alexander (U17) secured 2nd place in the B race with a time of 11.8 seconds 1. Montana Dennis (U20) ran 11.7 seconds in the non-scoring race.
200m: Carlos Mingoes finished 2nd in the A race with a time of 23.9 seconds. Robert Shin achieved a personal best of 25.7 seconds in the non-scoring race.
400m: Taha Abdullah (U23) set a personal best of 55.4 seconds in the A race, finishing 6th.
800m: Ben Hampshire achieved a personal best of 2:02.5 in the A race, finishing 4th.
1500m: Barry Kelly set a personal best of 4:08.7 in the A race, finishing 4th. Dylan Mills (U17) achieved a personal best of 4:17.7 in the non-scoring race.
3000m: Tam Mergia (U17) set a personal best of 10:20.1 in the B race, finishing 3rd.
110m Hurdles: Montana Dennis (U20) finished 4th in the A race with a time of 16.9 seconds.
400m Hurdles: Malakai David McKenzie Callum (U17) finished 2nd in the B race with a time of 65.7 seconds.
2000m Steeplechase: Wayne Morley finished 3rd in the A race with a time of 6:45.2. Sam Turner (U17) secured 1st place in the B race with a time of 7:06.9.
High Jump: Isaac Edwards set a personal best of 1.53 meters in the A event, finishing 6th.
Pole Vault: Ivan Ross (V50) equalled his personal best of 2.45 meters in the A event, finishing 5th.
Long Jump: Michael Olatunji set a personal best of 5.75 meters in the B event, finishing 2nd.
Triple Jump: Okiki Olugunna set a personal best of 12.58 meters in the A event, finishing 2nd.
Shot Putt: Tynan Byrne set a personal best of 8.63 meters in the B event, finishing 3rd.
Discus: Kurt Fullerton (V45) set a personal best of 24.58 meters in the A event, finishing 4th.
Hammer: Ben Smallwood set a personal best of 15.68 meters in the A event, finishing 6th.
Javelin: Ben Smallwood set a personal best of 26.80 meters in the non-scoring event.
4x100m Relay: The London Heathside team finished 1st with a time of 43.4 seconds.
Women's Highlights:
100m: Asia Emanuel (U20) finished 3rd in the A race with a time of 13.0 seconds. Rebecca Quirke set a personal best of 15.0 seconds in the non-scoring race.
200m: Nicole Stewart (U17) finished 4th in the B race with a time of 28.4 seconds.
400m: Isabella Watkins (U20) finished 4th in the A race with a time of 62.4 seconds.
800m: Isabella Watkins (U20) finished 3rd in the A race with a time of 2:24.2.
1500m: Lily Woolcock finished 1st in the B race with a time of 5:01.2.
100m Hurdles: Ely Angel Da Silva (U20) finished 2nd in the B race with a time of 20.3 seconds.
400m Hurdles: Ely Angel Da Silva (U20) set a personal best of 75.1 seconds in the A race, finishing 6th.
1500m Steeplechase: Millie Watkins (U20) finished 2nd in the A race with a time of 5:53.3. Lily Woolcock secured 1st place in the B race with a time of 6:20.9.
High Jump: Claris Lawrence (U17) finished 5th in the A event with a jump of 1.40 meters.
Triple Jump: Cara Brown set a personal best of 7.14 meters in the B event, finishing 5th.
Shot Putt: Ivy Paitoo (U17) finished 4th in the B event with a throw of 7.36 meters.
Discus: Juliette Bird set a personal best of 12.16 meters in the B event, finishing 5th.
Hammer: Abigail Bereket (U17) set a personal best of 10.17 meters in the B event, finishing 5th.
Javelin: Ivy Paitoo (U17) set a personal best of 13.70 meters in the A event, finishing 5th. Abigail Bereket (U17) set a personal best of 9.74 meters in the B event, finishing 5th.
4x100m Relay: The London Heathside team finished 2nd with a time of 50.1 seconds a new Club Record.

Parkruns
Heathside runners picked up a record of seven first places in Parkruns on Saturday. A total of 117 of our members took part in 55 Parkruns. The winners among the Heathside men were: Tom Hollis at Lordship Recreation Ground (16:41), Connor Brown at Killarney House (17:17), Peter Gould at Ally Pally (17:59) and Johnny Forsyth at a longer-than-5k version of Finsbury Park (18:30). Heathside women winners were: Chloe Wilkenson at Birkenhead (19:47), Chiara Borg at Grovelands (22:09) and Tanya Addison at Roosevelt Island DC. Full Heathside results here .
