Great North, Duathlon, Big Half and Last Friday of the month

Two half marathons and the Hampstead Heath duathlon made for an exciting racing weekend for many Heathsiders. Other race results can also be found in the report below.

Big Half, London 07.09.25

Here's Gavin Evan’s report:

“Sam Macaulay and Rebecca Piggott were the first of the 46 Heathside men and women in the Big Half, both finishing in 15th place in their gender categories. Sam’s time was 1:07:54 and Rebecca’s 1:21:10.

The race (which covers part of the London Marathon course, run backwards) involved nearly 25,000 finishers who ran in unusually hot and humid conditions, with the temperature reaching 27 degrees. Runners were warned several times not to go for PBs.

Among the 30 Heathside men, Sam was followed by Tsegay Behane in 1:10:52, Barry Kelly in 1:11:32 and Andy Barnes in 1:12:26.

Among the 16 Heathside women Rebecca was followed by Monica Newton, who was the second V45, in 1:26:31, Tatyana Potiyenko in 1;34:42 and Emily Eldred in 1:40:24.

In addition to Monica, age group top 3 places went to Rob Shulman (running under his son’s name) was unofficially the second V55 in 1:23:41 and Matt Beard was officially the third V55 in 1:24:18. Gavin Evans was the 2nd V65 in 1:31:49.”

Hampstead Heath Pondathon, Hampstead Heath, 07.09.25

It took a bit of detective work to find the Heathside  participants in the Hampstead Heath Duathlon.  I may well have missed out some results.

And here is a report from Filipe Cardoso: “I’m just sending in a race report for this year’s Hampstead Heath Duathlon aka Pondathon.

The event consists of swimming at the lido and the 3 ponds, as well as running between them.

It was a glorious sunny morning this Sunday in Hampstead Heath, where for another year some Heathsiders took part in the Pondathon.

This year the organiser’s decided to change the wave system at the lido by starting with the fastest group, then the slowest, then the 2nd slowest, 3rd slowest and so on.

I started on the penultimate (10th) wave which meant that by the time I started, the fastest group had already finished. However, this also meant that I always had people ahead of me leading the way. This was useful as the last time I raced the event, I missed the final turn and took longer routes than I had to in the ponds. I finished with a PB time of 39:40.”
