27th Hampstead Heath Duathlon                  30/8/26

Hannah sends in this report of the events at the Duathlon ( with pic from Marcus ) ;

“ There were over 400 participants for the 27th Hampstead Heath Duathlon (also known as the Pondathlon/Pondathlon). For the uninitiated, the race involves swimming three lengths in Parliament Hill Lido (180m), a 1.1km run from the Lido to Highgate Men's Pond followed by a swim (approx. 340m), a run to the Mixed Pond (approx. 2.9km), a swim in the Mixed Pond (180m), and a final run to the finish near the Lido (approx. 1.4km). It was possibly the first year without a swim in Kenwood Ladies' Pond owing to the presence of blue-green algae. The first Heathsider home was Patrick McHugh, who put in a fantastic performance to finish just outside the top 20.

The conditions were perfect (20 degrees, both water and air temperature, with a light breeze).”

World Masters Athletics Championships, Daegu    22/8 – 3/9/26

Three Heathsiders competed for Great Britain at the World Masters in South Korea.  Despite the challenging hot humid weather all three produced great performances.  Adrian Essex in particular was unlucky to miss the V75 200m final with the 9th best time and finished 6th in Long Jump.  Adrian Day was ranked 12th overall in the V65 400m.  Robin Hardy finished a creditable 11th in the Throwing Pentathalon despite some irratic measurements by the officials.

They will be looking to replicate their performances, this time in Heathside colours,  at the Vet League Final at the end of September.
