England Athletics National Relay Champs, Be-Fit Open and Watford Open

Five Heathside teams took part in the National Relay Championships in Birmingham.  Other events in the week were the Be-Fit Open and the Watford Open.

England Athletics National Relay Championships, Birmingham, 23.8.26

Simon Baker reports: “Five Heathside (or combined with Highgate Harriers) teams headed to Birmingham for a now annual event - the National Relay Championships.  Teams have to qualify so just getting to the starting line is an achievement.

The Boys U16 Team were 3rd in their heat until a mix up on the last change over saw them fall back but they still broke the club record by 0.65s with 46.01s.  The U18 and U20 men’s teams both set PBs but unfortunately didn't progress while the 4x400m U20 mixed team finished 6th in the final.

The highlight was the U20 W 4x100m who were neck and neck with the leaders after the 3rd changeover crossing the line in 3rd with a new overall club record of 48.33s.  However SBH were DQ'd resulting in the girls winning silver.

Well done to all the athletes and coaches especially Israel who team managed and co-ordinated specialised relay training.”
