MYAL, Marathon Action and a European Championship Qualifying Standard Achieved

This week features MYAL action from Harrow with records tumbling, plenty of marathon running from Edinburgh to South Africa. There were outstanding performances on the track at the Hurdlesfest in Chelmsford and in Loughborough Elkie Baker achieving UK Qualifying Standard for the European U18 Championships to be held this summer in Italy. Several Heathsiders also excelled at the Oxford v Cambridge varsity match as well as London University Championships.

MYAL 2#, Harrow, 31.6.26

Our youngest athletes took part in the 2nd MYAL of the season finishing 2nd again to Shaftesbury Barnet but this time by only one point. All the athletes unselfishly chipped in and filled in gaps in events they may not usually try which helped the scoring. The meeting also had the added excitement of relays. There were 7 new club records set and a League record by Dominic Jeles in the U12B Vortex.

Performance wise there were 4 Level 9 PB Award performances the highest an athlete can score for Lizzie Paitoo (U12G 75m), Dominik Jeles (U12B Vortex), Sarp Birsen (U14B HJ) and Gabriel Edwards (U16M 100mH).

There were event wins for Maya Jennings (U14G HJ), Sadie Taitt (U14G HT), Sarp Birsen (U16M HJ), Gabriel Edwards (U16M 300m, 100mH, LJ), Alex Kirk (U16B 1500m) and Leonard Hewings (U16M SP, HT).

Pickering Memorial International, Loughborough, 31.5.26

Elkie Baker represented England at the annual Pickering Memorial meeting which aims to give young athletes the opportunity of high quality competition. In a closely fought competition she responded in the 4th round with a massive PB of 44.48m a 1.67m improvement and over the UK Euro U18 Championship qualification standard. She was also chosen by the Team Managers as the best performance in the Women’s Discus receiving a host of prizes. Her next target is the UK U18 trials in Cardiff on 27-28th June to hopefully confirm her place on the plane to Reiti in Italy
