Montana and Elkie strike Double Gold at English Schools
This week saw double gold at the English Schools Championships, great efforts from the Club’s Vet team and a host of track and road race performances.
English Schools Championships, Birmingham 10-11th July 2026
English Schools held their 95th Championship and the last with the traditional Junior (U15), Intermediate (U17) and Senior (U19) age groups, although the Hurdlers were already using the new specifications. The Alexander Stadium which next month hosts the European Championships was bathed in sunshine on both days with temperatures over 30 degrees it offered a challenge to athletes to keep cool.
6 of the Club's Young Athletes had qualified (for Middlesex, Essex or London) and again produced a host of fabulous performances boasting 3 Gold Medals (2 individual and one relay). With most track events not having semi-finals qualifying is brutal and both Gabriel and Filip Kounoupas Prastalo missed out on their finals. Gabriel Edwards ran just 0.02s outside his PB to finish 3rd. Asia Emanuel finished 5th in her 100mH heat but returned later on Friday to win gold as part of the Middlesex SG 4x100m relay team.
Charlie Nicolson qualified comfortably for the IB 3000m final, however in Saturday's final there was barging in the leading group with 3 laps to go and Charlie knocked of balance stopped running only to start again from last to final finish in a frustrating 7th place.
Elkie Baker battled through food poisoning to compete in the SG Discus final on Saturday afternoon. Despite this with her third throw of 42.44m she comfortably took the title by over 3.5m. In her 5th English Schools, she now boasts two National titles a 2nd, 3rd and 6th place.
The final Young Heathsider to compete was Montana Dennis in his last School's Championships, ranked 4th U20M in the 110mH he finally secured a National Title winning the straight SB final with an explosive start that the other athletes could not match.
