UYDL - UPPER SOUTH Division 2B ASHTON PLAYING FIELDS Woodford Green IG8 8AA, 28.4.24

The first of this years UYDL matches was held on Sunday in initially cold wet conditions at Woodford. This is the third year we have competed in this league (as a combined team with Highgate). This league which follows the SAL format with all events provided is an ideal bridge for U17 and U20 athletes from the MYAL to senior athletics as well as giving athletes an opportunity to try a wider range of events than the MYAL. Some great performances from young Heathsiders saw event wins for Thomas Wassermann (U20M Shot and Hammer), David Baah-Ojyere (U20M 800m), Montana Dennis (U17M 100mH), Suraya Frost (U17W 80mH) and Elkie Baker (U17W Discus). Sam Turner set a new 1500mSC record in his firsat steeplechase race. Other great contributions from Kyra Smith, Tristian Willhoft-King (who was injured in the High Jump), Ben Ryan and making his Heathside debut Emilio Giraldo who in his first ever meet ran 100m, 200m and Long Jump.

The team finished 4th behind hosts Woodford, Dartford, and Basildon but ahead of Newham and VP&TH a great start to build on. Many thanks to Israel for his team. The next match is in Basildon on 26th May.
