ESAA 94th Track and Field Championships, Birmingham 11-12th July

Simon Baker reported: “English Schools AA are celebrating their centenary this year and their 94th Annual Championships.  The Championships included numerous outstanding performances with 18 new Championship Records set in sweltering hot conditions on both days.  The Club had 8 Young Athletes taking part for Middlesex, London and Essex.  The friday saw Mikel and Asia's Championships end in the heats by small margins but with no semi-finals scheduled qualification was brutal.

Our hurdlers faired better with all progressing to their finals, with Malakai  winning his heat.  The finals were a little mixed Trey who was struggling with an injury missed out on bronze by 0.07s, Montana was 8th in the same race.  Gabriel Edwards in his 1st English School's was 5th as was Malakai.  Gabriel did however win a silver after running 1st leg of the JB 4x100m for Essex.

In the 1500m Charlie Nicolson won his heat on Friday but unfortunately was run out of the medal places finishing 5th in exceptionally challenging conditions for middle distance running.

In the Discus Elkie Baker took the lead in the 2nd round extending it in the 4th round to take the National Title and completing her set as she won bronze in 2023 and silver last year.  She will represent England Schools in the SIAB International at Derby on the 19th.”
