SEAA London Cross Country Championships, Parliament Hill, 18 Nov

Despite only the Senior races going ahead, nevertheless there was a large club turnout and this time the men took the honours by triumphing in the team race ( pic above ) . Other highlights included an individual silver medal for Seyfu and top 10 finish for Kader, while the women’s team took fourth place.

Simon Baker reports on the days events :

“ Almost perfect cross-country weather greeted a good turnout of both men’s and women’s teams. It however made a mockery of the decision to cancel the Junior races earlier in the day.  With still plenty of autumn colour in the trees the course was remarkably firm although there was plenty of mud to coat the legs.  The women started the action and while no one was able to keep full pace with the leaders the team led by Jessica Prior packed well from 19th place with 9 runners in the top 50 and the team missing the bronze medal by just 9 points.

The senior mens race saw Seyfu Jamaal and Kader Seyed set off in the leading group on the 3 lap course.  By the 2nd lap 3 runners had broken ahead with Seyfu in close contention ultimately finishing 2nd .  Behind him there were a host of Heathsiders with Kader finishing 9th and George Gurney and Yann Sevestre with Tom Aldred the first vet home in 15th place.  This ensured the Men comfortably won the London Championship title. “
