Meanwhile the Autumn marathon season continued, with the New York City and Nice events, although the weather was decidedly non –autumnal in both cases

 New York City Marathon                                                                       6 Nov

 Monika managed a good performance in the conditions and writes

“ Americans certainly know how to throw a great party but I found the race itself really tough as it was way too hot and humid for my liking “

 a sentiment echoed by Jim who also commented on the “ brilliant crowds “

Marathon Des Alpes - Maritimes          Nice – Cannes                      30 Oct

From the previous week, a few Heathsiders braved the hot climate of the south of France

Phil Hogg reports on the “ Carnage on the Cote d'Azur “

  “On Sunday 30th October a few of heathsiders completed the marathon des alpes maritimes from Nice to Cannes along the coast. Very scenic route on a very hot day. New club member Magnus Hallin completed his first marathon together with his son Elof who is very sporty but had done basically no training whatsoever. He was determined to prove to all of us that training was overrated. We were all super relieved to see Elof at the finish line! Great race, just way way too hot. From half way it was all about survival. A swim in the sea and a rendezvous with beer and pizza took place after the finish line! “

Huge congratulations to first time marathoners magnus, elof and fanny “.

Victoria Park Half Marathon 5 Nov

  In the cooler climes of north east London, Julia Kelk ( in pic ) ran a half marathon at Victoria Park as part of her marathon preparations and reports ;

“ I ran The Victoria Park half marathon in the rain on Saturday. A wet blustery day, not very inspiring but part of training for the Valencia marathon 4 weeks later.

 I ran 1:32:05 with steady splits … While I had hoped for faster, my current fitness and fatigue was what it was and I was happy to run even splits.  The event is always a solid one for London racing even if extremely dull at 6.5 laps of the park. Then ran home after for 20.5 miles for the day, another long run in the bank. “
