Archer number one in UK in 1500

We begin with the news that our own Tom Archer has been ranked No 1 in the UK this year for the u17 1500m with an astonishing 3:51:57 performance. Big congratulations to Thomas, and also to his dedicated coach Kabir Kemp.

And seeing we are at that time of the year, we can announce that our wonderful virtual Heathside choir has produced its Christmas Number One with its rendition of ‘Fairy Tale of New York’. Thanks to fiddler and arranger Emilia Vynnycky and the rest of the talented group. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEmX4G4sOmk&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR1uZ7XuF2OZoBI8wJDvhemThRBfIW7zNdcuHgy8OzdTlf9-yKOzeTC7nvM

We’ve also had some wonderfully nifty times over the past week including an excellent 2:34 for James Hurrell at the Running Grand Prix marathon in Goodwood and 36:06 in the 10,000 for Julia Bijl in the same event, while George Gurney ran a big PB of 32:30 in the Remembrance Run Herts, Hemel Hempstead.

The best of the junior performances included Caitlin Roberts’s excellent winning time of 5:54 in the U11 1500m at the Youth Games in Hampstead Heath, Eric Beale’s winning time of 7:16 in the boys’ U13 2000m, Lena Westgate’s first place in 8:29 in the U13 girls’ 2000 and Fred Beale’s win in the U15 3000m in a time of 11:17. Jack Davis-Black won the 4500 in 15:34Among the U9s there were wins for Olayinka Oluseye in the 400m and Zachary Boultouak and Emily Metcalf in the 800.

Nike London Youth Games Virtual Cross Country, Hampstead Heath, December 5-6

Almost 100 Juniors took part in a series of races organised by the club for the Nike London Youth Games Virtual Cross Country which replaced the annual races at Hampstead Heath before the London XC Championships.  The Club were able to enter times for 5 London Boroughs showing how wide the club membership stretches.

Sundays are busy at the track (social distanced of course) and the enthusiastic younger groups also took part in races with Olayinka Oluseye the first U9 home in the 400m.  The 800m saw Zachary Boultouak and Sebastian McNeely require a photo finish to separate them recording 3:12.  Emilly Metcalf was the first girl home.

The U11's ran their 1500m on the track with a superb 5:54 by Caitlin Roberts the fastest girl 14 sec quicker than her Middlesex Virtual Race time.  Charlotte Beale was 2nd with 6.16 with Pheobe Willhoft-King next.  In the boys Laurie Charalambides ran a speedy 5:50 finishing just ahead of Frido Laurence and Charlie Roberts.  The older age groups started and finished on the track but ran a loop round the park with the steep Park Run hill to finish with.  The U13's ran 2,000m with Eric Beale the first home in 7:16  with Edward Metcalf and Koppany Szentes close behind.

In the girls races Lena Westgate was first in 8:29 with Tara Sweetnam and Lettice Grundy making up the top 3.  LYG have yet to get the Run Equal memo so the U15 girls also ran 2000m with Ruby Walls first home in 7:39 with Isabelle and Emelia next in their first run for the club for a while.   Fred Beale was the first  U15 Boy home running 3000m in 11:17 with Dylan Aujla and Ivor Joslin next.  Fabienne Weston was the only U17 Woman taking part and the races were finished with the U17 Men running 4,500m with Jack Davis Black the first home.

Thanks to Ruth, Russell and Mary for organising everything over the weekend and well done to all the runners especially our U15 Girls sprinters who also took part.
