19 County Champions at Middlesex Champs

Middlesex Track & Field County Champs Lee Valley      11-12 May

34 medals were won amidst 19 gold medal performances at the Middlesex championships ( up from 16 from last year ) : there were 15 different Gold medallists, 3 of whom (Abel Woldegiogis (SM ), Gabriel Edwards ( U15B ), & Thomas Wassermann ( U20M ) were County champions in more than one event ; and new Club records were set by Ivy Paitoo ( U15G Shot Put ) & Suraya Frost ( U17W 80mH )

Simon Baker reports ;

“ The weekend saw the first major event of the track season with the County Championships held at a sunny Lee Valley.  The Championships again produced a host of fantastic performances with 34 medalists 19 of which were new County Champions topping the 16 from last year.  Ivy Paitoo (U15G SP) and Suraya Frost (U17W 80mH) both set new Club Records.   

 Reflecting the club's endurance origins a 800m/1500m double for Abel Woldgiorgis and Christopher Gracie in the 5000m completed a clean sweep in the senior mens title, Jonathan Hilling winning bronze.  Israel Nworgu added the outdoor title to the indoor one he won in March.  Rachel McDonald was the only Senior Women competing but she took bronze in the 400m and was just piped into silver in the 800m.

 The U20 Men saw multiple golds for Thomas Wassermann in the Shot and 400mH while Prithvi Raj Sharma secured gold in the High Jump.  Trey Corlis won the 110mH ahead of Thomas.  A competitive 800m saw George Saint 2nd with a time just over 2 minutes.  Issy Watkins took silver in the U20 Women 1500m

 Mikel Alexander and Tobias Toth-Stevens both made the U17M 100m final while Sam Turner won the 3000m.  Montana Dennis and Malakai won both hurdle races.  Asia Emanuel qualified for the 100m final finishing 4th as did Amy Kirk ion the 1500m.  Elkie Baker won silver in the Discus and Suraya Frost gold in the 80mH in a new club record of 12.00s

 The U15 Boys picked up most medals with Gabriel Edwards responsible for 3 golds in the 80mH, Triple Jump and Long Jump.  Ennio Kaloukian (3000m), Zackariya Yahya (Triple Jump) Christopher Bage (Javelin) won silver with Roderic Alonso Pascual bronze in the High Jump.  Myla Miller made the final of both 100m and 200m with Ivy Paitoo winning gold with a new club U15G shot put record of 9.73m.  Margot Hunt, Caitlin Roberts and Lila Blustin ensured a Heathside 1-2-3 in the 3000m.  The only U13 competitor Tahan Dayes won gold in the Shot Put.

The Club finished 2nd in the medal table behind Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers.”
