This week’s highlights include Sion Lewis representing Wales in the England v Wales 10 International, Pete Crockford picking up a club age group record in Veterans 5-Mile Champs and Rich Macauley running a PB in the same event, and Tony Killilea running a club age group record time in the England 1500 Steeplechase Championships.

 

Great Birmingham Run, 10k, Sunday May 5

Sion Lewis was selected to represent the Welsh Masters team in the England v Wales 10k international that was incorporated into the Great Birmingham Run on Sunday.

He writes: ‘On an undulating and twisty course I was pretty happy to finish in 25th place in 34:01. The English team proved too strong on the day but I get another chance to beat them in the Half Marathon in Manchester towards the end of May.’

Richard Macauley, running in the V35 category, picked up a fast PB at this five-mile event, finishing in 26:34 while Pete Crockford ran a season’s best time of 36:07, which is new club record.

England Athletics Steeplechase Festival, Bury St Edmunds, April 28

 

Tony Killilea picked up a club record in the 1,500 steeplechase on April 28. He writes that the national steeplechase festival is a ‘wonderful idea – but it’s just a pity the weather was cruelly cold, wet and windy at the track without any shelter’. He adds that the officials ‘coped admirably with the conditions’.

Parkruns

 

What might be a record number of Heathsiders – 104 in all – participated in 40 Parkruns on Saturday. There were first places for both Kader Seyed (16:40) and Chloe Wilkenson (19:58) in Finsbury Park; Andy Barnes (17:17) in Valentines; Danny O’Reilly (17:54) in St Helen’s, Fred Beale (18:04) in Ally Pally, Meg Naylor (22:04) in Dalby Forest and James Lynch (20:03) in Horseshoe Bay Reserve (20:03).
