Volunteering Spring and Summer 2018

Race Marshals

Sunday May 20th YMCA North London 10k (or Crouch End 10k to you and me)
This Rob Jackson Trophy event doesn’t happen without our support. It raises funds to help vulnerable homeless young people build a better future for themselves. We’ll have some 60+ members competing but we also need around 35 members to marshal on the day. Four people are needed the day before to mark out the course. Course layers get a free entry into the race (plus an ice cream ☺) and marshals get a lovely breakfast and the best spectating points possible.

Tuesday 17th July City of London 5km
This is a “London Marathon” organised event with circa 5000 competing. We take responsibility for a small section of the race, for which we earn funds for the club and need around 15-20 people volunteers. Great atmosphere, free food and drink afterwards, a lovely way to spend a summer’s evening.

Thursday 19th July Club 5k Handicap Highgate Woods
Our own event, a classic part of our calendar. We need around 12-15 people to loiter in the woods during the race pointing the way for our members. A great evening finishing in a local pub with a diet Pepsi or two.

Finsbury Park Track assistants

Unbelievably we are hosting SIX track meetings this summer:

Tuesday May 8th: Heathside Club Championships Part 1
Tuesday 31st May: Our first ever open meeting on the new track
Sunday June 17th: Middlesex Young Athletes League
Thursday 5th July: Our 2nd open meeting
Saturday July 14th: Southern Athletic League
Thursday September 4th: Heathside Club Champs Part 2

We need volunteers for a range of duties at track meetings, most of which require a dose of enthusiasm but no prior experience or qualifications - from raking jump landing pits to putting out hurdles, raising and lowering hammer cage nets, taking equipment from our container to shot put, javelin, discus, and hammer areas, keeping the track clean and clear, helping timers, helping athletes with registration and numbers, helping with the snack bar, and so on.

It's all very relaxed and not too demanding, and it's sociable too, so we'd encourage everyone - young and not so young - to help out when you can.
• Please sign up to help for at least one of these track meetings at Finsbury Park here
