InterCounties, Surrey Half & a couple of Ultras

21.3.18  This report covers the action from the last 2 weekends, and there was something for everyone with a variety of races ranging from InterCounties & Schools cross country, several Half Marathons, a Duathlon, an indoor 400m,and a couple of off road long distance events, Unfortunately however most of last Sunday’s racing was lost to the weather including the Reading and Fleet Half Marathons and the Finchley 20

Spike, Thomas & Jem win mini-marathon trials

We paid a price for a magnificent few days of snow running: most of the best-laid plans for weekend races were scotched by cancellations. But to the huge credit of numerous Heathside volunteers the Mini Marathon trials went ahead on Sunday at our Finsbury Park track and saw first places for Spike Blake (u-13), Thomas Archer (u-15) and Jem O’Flaherty (u-17) and a second place for Lily McKay (u-17). And while several half marathons were cancelled, the inaugural Big Half went ahead and saw our Katy Webster, a new mum, cruising home in 79 minutes to beat all our men. Also surviving the cut was the Thames Riverside 20, where Louisa Pointon and Liz Drake braved the 8am start to come 9th and 13th respectively
