Our Future!
London Heathside has a thriving Young Athletes section that encourages participation, fun and allows progression into competitive athletics. For example, our young athletes regularly compete in the London Mini Marathon, local track and field and
cross-country leagues, as well as school championships.
New members are encouraged to come along to see what we do,
meet the coaches and try it out for a couple of weeks before
joining formally.
The Thursday 5:30pm session at Finsbury Park track is the best session for new members.
Most of our sessions provide training for children aged 11+ years, but we also hold a dedicated session, at 5pm on Thursdays, for children aged 6 - 10 years old. This session is called “Afterschool Primary Athletics”.

Coaching
London Heathside has a number of well qualified and experienced coaches who encourage participation and enjoyment in a range of athletic activities, and also provide specialist support for those looking to develop further.
All our coaches are CRB checked and sign up to our coaches code of conduct. Through the North London Athletics Network, our athletes also benefit from joint specialist coaching sessions with other clubs.
Competition
All Heathside young athletes get a chance to compete in a number of different competitions. However, this is not compulsory and some prefer initially to just participate in the training.
Some of the main competitions we enter are listed below:
The club takes the welfare of our young athletes very seriously and has a dedicated welfare officer, Ruth Miller. We see welfare as a joint responsibility between parents, coaches and the young athletes themselves.
Our welfare policies and procedures are in line with the guidelines set by UKA and England Athletics and can be viewed by clicking on the links below. If you have any concerns or would like to discuss any issues with Ruth, please contact her on r.miller@mdx.ac.uk or phone her confidentially on 0770 9622140.
