Track & Field Events
Many of us have an interest in one event or another, perhaps the potential to do well. Heathside supports its beginners as well as its stars on track and field with advice, facilities and entry to suitable events.

Turn up at Finsbury Park track and introduce yourself
or contact team managers for details.

Leagues:

Southern Athletics League
The SAL is a relatively new league that held its first season in 2011 and is much larger heading into its second season, with a first division and four regional second divisions. It is a combined league, i.e. involving competition between joint men’s and women’s teams, with results from both the men’s and women’s events added to give a joint final score. The league is made up of two divisions, with Heathside a member of the second division. The league is open to senior men and women, and young athletes who are at least 15 years old on 31 August in the year of competition.

All senior men are very welcome to take part in these matches to represent Heathside’s ‘B’ team. There is no minimum standard required. So if you have a fancy for sprinting, distance running, jumping or throwing then please take part and contact Tony Killilea on 07901 716045 before the fixture. Last year 32 athletes turned out for the ‘B’ team over the 5 matches. This was great to see and it would be wonderful if even more people gave track and field a try this season. Please note that on the two dates asterisked there is also a SAL match. Some athletes will be expected to represent the ‘A’ team on these dates in the SAL. We also need people to help out with the marshalling at all these matches. You don’t need any qualifications or experience for most of the jobs. So if you can’t compete why not come along and enjoy some athletics for free while doing something worthwhile, whether it’s raking the long jump pit, holding a tape measure or catching the javelins (I just made that one up!).
